The Story Behind Recipe Shop

The Story Behind Recipe Shop, a heartfelt initiative born out of personal struggle and transformation. The inception of this website traces back to a life-altering family experience—our mother’s sudden cardiac arrest due to a virus. What began as a critical emergency evolved into a challenging journey of recovery and adaptation. From being medication-free to managing a weak heart and newly diagnosed diabetes, the transition was monumental.

In our family, we hold a firm belief: “Your diet shapes your health.” Convinced that the right foods can significantly influence well-being, my sister and I embarked on a meticulous quest to tailor a diet that accommodates the stringent needs of both heart health and diabetes management. It became quickly evident that navigating a low sodium diet was particularly demanding. The revelation of high sodium content in seemingly “healthy” foods was startling.

Determined to forge a sustainable path for our mother—and by extension, our own health—we devised Low Sodium, Low Carbohydrate, Shoppable Recipes that are limited to right around 45 carbohydrates and about 500 milligrams of sodium per meal. Crafting these recipes wasn’t straightforward; it involved adapting traditional recipes, sourcing special ingredients, and continuous experimentation.

We also needed something super convenient that did not add extra time, preferably with delivery or store pick up. That is why the shoppable links are as important as the recipes. With a few clicks, you can add all the ingredients to your Instacart or Walmart cart for delivery or store pick up, saving you time and hassle.

Recipe Shop is more than just a collection of recipes. It’s a platform to share our journey, offering support and resources to others navigating similar health landscapes. We understand the overwhelm that can accompany coming home from the hospital, faced with the daunting task of overhauling one’s diet. Through this site, we aim to alleviate that burden for others.

As we continue to explore, learn, and create, Recipe Shop remains a work in progress. We regularly update our site with new weekly recipes, discoveries in ingredients, and useful culinary tools that meet our dietary criteria.
